The Cuban Yarn Doll is a craft I found

in the book:
Traditional Crafts from the Caribbean by Florence Temko.
This doll can be made larger or smaller, as you wish, and can be fatter or thinner than mine.
Materials: A piece of cardboard cut to the measurement of 6" x 4".
Scrap yarn, about 1 oz.
Elmer's Glue-All, or Tacky Glue
Google eyes
Scrap felt for a mouth.
Time: About 30 minutes, start to finish.
Method:
1) Begin by wrapping your yarn around and around the cardboard lengthwise. You will need a fair amount of yarn, approximately 1/4 of a regular skein, or 3/4 of a 1 1/2 oz skein.
2) Slip an 8" piece of yarn under the wraps at one end of the cardboard and tie the yarn in a tight knot. This makes the top of the head. Leave a long piece of yarn at the top of the tie to be a hanger. Slip the yarn off the cardboard.
3) Come down about an inch and tie another tie to make a neck.
4) Cut all the yarn loops at the other end.
5) Separate the yarn for the arms leaving a chest area. Tie yarn around the waist.
6) Tie yarn at the wrists and trim off the excess. Make the arms shorter than the legs, but you already knew that.
7) Separate the legs and tie yarn at the ankles. Trim the feet to make a nice shape.
8) Glue on google eyes and a small piece of felt for a smiling mouth.
TIPS FOR WORKING WITH KIDS
1) Let the kids do the wrapping. It may not be even, but it will be all right to make the doll.
2) The yarn may be tangled when they try to make the arms and legs. This is a good time to help, but let them tie the ties for the wrists, ankles, waist and neck. If they don't know how to make a simple overhand knot, they should learn.
3) Include boys in this project. I had quite a few in my program and they enjoyed it.
