Spiral Mobile - The Crafty LibrarianThis is truly a craft project that becomes a work of art! Materials: 1 flimsy paper plate.
Scissors
Crayons/Markers to decorate your mobile with.
String for suspending it.
Hole Punch

Time: 15 minutes

Method: Decorate your paper plate as you choose. To get the striped look of my mobile, begin by drawing a spiral from the outside edge of the plate going toward the center. These are your guide lines and your cut lines. Then use brightly colored markers to trace around and around the plate, ending in the middle.

Make the mobile by cutting on the lines you drew. Let the plate unfold itself. It will be rather long if your spiral was narrow.

Punch a hole in what once was the center of the paper plate. Thread a bit of yarn or string and tie it for hanging.

TIPS FOR WORKING WITH KIDS:
Don't insist on any particular design. My Crafty Kids made several impressive spirals simply by randomly coloring the paper plate with bright pinks and blues.

If you are working with a tough crowd, you can call it a hanging snake!
